Meet Xazu Rexen

When you begin in Second Life you create an avatar to represent you in the virtual world. You are able to choose any first name - mine is Xazu - but the last name appears to have to be chosen from a list generated by Second Life.

You can customize your appearance completely. I felt like having blue skin. Your avatar starts with some free clothing and there is more to be had from the free stuff on Help Island. I like the box. You can edit the clothing also.

Later you can buy (or find for free) avatar styles and any type of clothing you can imagine created by others. Many of these are quite good and much better than what you can create as a beginner with no experience. There are many building/creating tutorials both in SL and online.
