Through exploring many different lands I found that there are all knids of ways to communicate or share information with others.
Notecards give information about places and objects, or any information the creator wants to share. These go into your inventory for you to read whenever you choose. For instance, I found this one in a Sci Fi library display on Hugo award winners. I clicked an object in the display and it gave me this list of winners of the 1960's.
I found some powerpoint presentations. You view them within SL and advance the slides by touching the screen they are presented on.
I also found computer and information terminals everywhere which will open your web browser in another window and take you to web sites.
There are many display boards which give information of upcoming events. Events I saw promoted include real-time lectures, discussions with authors, meetings, live music performances, and ads for temporary art installations. There are all kinds events in SL just like in the real world.
