The Purpose
This wiki site is made to tell of my exploration in Second Life as part of a Web 2.0 assignment. I chose to use this wiki because I felt that after exploring SL this may actually fit the assignment better than Second Life itself.
I chose to explore Second Life to see what it could possibly offer, particularly for libraries and education. I wrote a paper a while back on the way different technologies have had an impact on library services. Second Life appeared in a few of the articles I read for research, but I did not get much of a chance to experience it first hand. I had downloaded the program and entered the world briefly but I did not have the time to really see what it offers. I wanted to take this opportunity to explore as much as possible.
I have been playing online computer games for many years now and I am interested to see if a virtual world can offer more than just meaningless entertainment.
This Wiki
I wanted to try making a wiki. I have never really made any type of a website before and I felt wikis might be a fun and easy way to begin. First I tried playing around with Wikispaces and found it difficult. I did not like what it had to offer. This Wikidot was much easier to use and so I am also using it for my capstone portfolio. The handbook and forums here are very useful and simple to understand. I'm glad I found this site because I was worried about how I was ever going to be able to create a nice online portfolio without having to learn web design completely.
